DAO HEALING

Gua Sha, Cupping, Movement & Meditation

HEALTH IS THE GREATEST POSSESSION. ~ LAO TZU

Practical and poetic, Dao is an ever-changing network of relationships that fluctuate between order and chaos.

In the Dao, nothing is ever static. Nothing exists in isolation. Everything is in a harmonious or discordant relationship.

The concept of relationship is so deeply embedded into Daoist healing that the organs are seen as a family. For instance, the lung is the mother of the kidney. The lung and large intestine are partners.

Daoist healing is a holistic form of healing. It looks at personality, body type, lifestyle, seasons, elements, and the cosmic influences on health and wellbeing.

These are the reasons that I fell in love with Dao philosophy and practices at 17. I studied with a grandmaster of healing, martial arts, and Dao meditation for 12 years, Professor Lün Wong.

What Happens in a Dao Healing Session?

The healing sessions involve a number of massage Daoist techniques including; Gua Sha, Cupping, and soothing massage, movement, and meditation instruction.

The appropriate combination of techniques is determined by the client’s current condition, personality and body type, and of course, their preference.

Benefits of a Dao Healing Session

Gua Sha and Cupping are powerfully detoxification and de-stressing techniques. They release muscular tension and tightness, improve suppleness and energy flow. Dao Movement and Meditations are self-healing practices that you can continue beyond the session.

  • Gua sha uses a porcelain or jade handtool to scrape across the skin in order to stimulate blood flow. Research shows that it helps disperse toxins by increased circulation. As the blood is reabsorbed by the body it promotes an enzyme (HO-1) which is anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting.
  • Cupping uses glass cups and a flame to create a vacuum of negative pressure that draws the flesh into the cup and opens the pores. It releases contracted, stressed muscles, encourages blood flow, and sedates the nervous system.

Both techniques are useful for general tension and stress, high blood pressure, back and neck pain, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, bronchial disorders, and even cellulite.

  • Movement and Meditation use specific breathing patterns, postures, and focus techniques to bring about a change in all the body’s systems – circulatory, respiratory, nervous, and endocrine. The form for you depends on your most prescient needs e.g., inner calm, confidence, increased vitality, concentration, or to feel reconnected with yourself and life. These meditations are personalized.
